Rooted Deep, Growing Together

Mason County Climate Justice is a multiracial, multigenerational, community-based nonprofit based in Mason County, WA, and the sovereign Skokomish and Squaxin Island Nations. Co-founded in 2018 as an all-volunteer grassroots collective, MCCJ grew into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2023.

We build community food forests, teach workshops, provide a rural perspective on policy, defend legacy forests so that they become old growth, collaborate for a Just Transition, and organize our community to take charge of our shared future.

About MCCJ

Our Mission:

Mason County Climate Justice envisions and co-creates local climate solutions that regenerate healthy ecosystems, benefit everyone in our rural community, and align with climate justice movements around the world.

 Tell me more!

  • Because this is our shared home. It’s up to us to look out for each other as neighbors.

  • A Just Transition dreams of a world of freedom.

A Just Transition means a world where food is medicine, and we as a county are self-sufficient again in its production. It means a world where our building materials are grown and harvested sustainably close to home. It means a world with safe, healthy, and abundant employment in local workplaces. It means a world where no group of people suffers while another group unfairly benefits. It means a world where we move beyond a two-party political system and look at our neighbors as people again, not as liberals or conservatives.

A Just Transition means tribal sovereignty and support for traditional culture, language, and practices. It means healthy soil, clean air and water, now and for all future generations.

A Just Transition means the transformation of Mason County back into a place of abundant lands and waters full of food for everyone.

  • Yes! MCCJ runs on volunteers. We can always use help with planting parties, art builds, watering food forests, giving away fruit trees at events, transporting materials (truck owners & drivers especially appreciated!), outreach, public comments, hosting community events, fundraising, and more.
